Sketch

The liturgical adaptation intervention was conceived with the aim of making the assembly active and participatory by extending the area of the presbytery, lower, towards the transept. The idea consists in the creation of a bema raised two steps above the assembly level, in gray pitch stone on which to place the new altar. From here you go down towards the ambo located on the assembly floor between the sundial and the new presbytery. The chair is brought in close contact with the assembly, diagonally with the ambo at the side of the altar. All the fires are designed in black pitch stone, designed in continuity with the Etna area. In this sense they express an immediate and evocative symbolism. Christ is light, the altar, made of local black pitch stone, is earth torn apart by the fire that comes out of the darkness just as the Risen Christ is the power of God's life that conquers death. The ambo, with the same language as the altar, wants to express the same strength that the resurrection of Jesus, announced in the Word, brings to the world. Finally the chair. It also takes up the theme of the torn rock but adds a "void" that allows us to look beyond. This space marked by the gold of fire remains open towards the Beyond, signifying that the true presidency of the community is that of Christ.
